Carrickfergus Castle
Carrickfergus Castle is a Norman castle in Northern Ireland situated beside the town of Carrickfergus in County Antrim and on the shore of Belfast Lough. It was built by John de Courcy in 1177 as his headquarters after his invasion of Ulster. The middle and outer wards were later added by King John and Hugh de Lacy, respectively. Carrickfergus Castle was occupied by the British military until 1928; it is now open to visitors.
