Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival Cruise Lines was originally an independent company founded in 1972 by Ted Arison. It is now a branded division within Carnival Corporation & Plc, a publicly traded company with Micky Arison as the Chairman. Carnival Corporation & Plc owns a number of different cruise lines and has become the largest corporation in the cruise industry.

Carnival was a pioneer in the concept of cheaper and shorter cruises. While some may consider its ships to fall short of the luxury of a Holland America or Silversea vessel, they are both popular and profitable. This was underscored in 1996 when Carnival launched the Carnival Destiny displacing 101,000 tons, the largest passenger ship in the world at the time, and rivaling aircraft carriers for size.

:* In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Government chartered the Holiday, Esctasy and Sensation to act as temporary housing for at least six months. The Holiday will remain at dock in Mobile, Alabama while the others will do the same in Galveston, Texas.
