Carnegie, Victoria


 

Carnegie is a suburb of Melbourne, Australia, in the state of Victoria. It is in the Local Government Area of the City of Glen Eira. Its postcode is 3163. Originally called Rosstown, after William Murray Ross, a developer. The name was changed to Carnegie in 1909 in an unsuccessful attempt to secure funds for a library from the philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The original name lives on in the name of the local hotel, and Rosstown Road. Leila Road is named after Mr Ross's wife.
