Trivia
Erskine also was spared embarassment in a relief appearance in a 1951 playoff game against Dodgers rivals NY Giants. Erskine and Ralph Branca were both warming up in the bullpen when the Brooklyn pitching coach decided that Branca should enter the game. Branca did, and gave up a home run to Bobby Thomson, which is also known as "The Shot Heard around the World".
