Culture

Carbondale in known as a former mining and ranching town that has evolved over the last thirty years into a bedroom community for the town of Aspen. Nevertheless, Carbondale has managed to maintain its own identity as it struggles to balance economic development and the desire to maintain its rural charm. The town enthusiastically supports a broad range of community events such as Dandelion Day and Potato Day, The Carbondale Mountain Fair, in July, which attracts musicians, artisans and hippies from all over the west, as well as local rodeos and popular road races.
