Captain
Captain is both a nautical term and a military rank. The word came to English via French from the Latin capitaneus ("chief") which is itself derived from the Latin word for "head" (caput).
Fictional References
In the science-fiction series , Captain Jean-Luc Picard is the captain and commanding officer of the USS Enterprise-D, the fifth starship to bear the name "Enterprise". While the rank insignia are different in the fictional 24th century, the role of captain as the absolute commander continues to exist.
