Calf muscle

The calf or sura is a pair of muscles -- the gastrocnemius and soleus -- at the back of the lower human leg. The calf muscle is connected to the foot through the Achilles tendon, which acts to plantar flex the foot. Thus it is used extensively in walking and running.
