Bute


 
 

Bute, sometimes known as Buteshire (Siorrachd Bh?id in Gaelic), is a small traditional county of Scotland. It comprises a number of islands in the Firth of Clyde, the principal ones being the Isle of Bute, the Isle of Arran, and Great Cumbrae. In 2001 its usually resident population was 13,720.

Currently the Isle of Bute is also part of the unitary authority of Argyll and Bute, and the Isle of Arran and Great Cumbrae are administratively also in North Ayrshire.

The traditional county town is Rothesay, located on the Isle of Bute.
