Bush (band)

Bush was a British post-grunge band formed in 1991. Their debut was a self-released album named Sixteen Stone; it was released in 1994.

The name Bush came about because they used to live in Shepherd's Bush, London. In Canada, they were once known as BushX, because the 1970s band Bush, led by Domenic Troiano, owned the Canadian rights to the name. In April 1997, it was announced that Troiano had agreed to let them use the name Bush in Canada without the letter X, in exchange for donating $20,000 each to the Starlight Foundation and the Canadian Music Therapy Trust Fund.

In Iraq before the fall of Saddam Hussein's government, radio referred to the band as "B-U-S-H", spelling out the name of the band so as not to seem to refer to either U.S. President, George H. W. Bush or George W. Bush.

Frustrated by the disappointing sales of Golden State and lack of support the band was receiving from Atlantic, the band decided to go on a hiatus. Band members went to work on various other musical projects notably Gavin Rossdale, and his new band Institute. In recent interviews, Rossdale (who is married to Gwen Stefani, lead singer of another wildly popular rock band, No Doubt) said he hasn't ruled out the possibility of Bush getting back together, but says it is on the back burner at the moment.
