Buffalo fish


 

The Buffalo fish is the common name of any of several large members from the sucker fish family Catostomidae. They can be found in bodies of fresh water throughout the Mississippi valley. The most important species in this family, which are used for food, are the red-mouthed or brown (Ictiobus bubalus), the big-mouthed or black (Bubalichthys urus), and the small-mouthed (B. altus).
