Bucoli

The known history of the decade 170-180AD throws some further light on this question. In 172AD there had been a rebellion in Egypt against Rome engineered by the Bucoli, "herdsmen" from the Delta region, during which the Romans had been defeated in pitched battle and Alexandria nearly captured.
