Bromwell High

Bromwell High is a Canadian-made animated series about a British high school in South London. It airs on Teletoon in Canada and on Channel 4 in the UK.

Principal Characters

Natella

She is a young child of south Asian decent who is extremely intelligent, articulate and ambitious. She is a somewhat arrogant, but often rightfully so. However, there are times when she works hard at a project and fails miserably. She often tries to overcome depressing situations through reasoning, yet passionately abandons reasoning when she finds out that the situation was worse or better than she thought.

Keisha Marie

She is a child from a broken home, and blames society for treating her badly because she is black. She is not studious at all partly because she has attention deficit disorder. Mainly, however, Keisha does poorly in school because she is trapped in a ?vicious cycle?. According to Natella in the episode ?Valentine?s Day?, Keisha ?can?t read because not interested in School, not interested in school because can?t read.?

She is also very violent and assaults people with little or no justification.

Latrina

Latrina is the most attractive member of the trio. She is also the least intelligent of the trio. She is promiscuous and unsophisticated, but she acts with good intentions. She dismisses many things, such as ?tolerance? and ?not having babies?, as ?for gays.?

Staff

Iqbal Kandallah

Iqbal is the Headmaster of Bromwell High, but he is extremely incompetent. He regularly commits many criminal acts in the course of his duties, mostly embezzlement of school funding that should be going towards books and teaching aids. He tries to make money in any way he can, which often involves illegal and unethical practices. As well, he speaks ?Banana Boat English? according to his Deputy, Mr. Bibby.

However, he makes up for his shortcomings with inflated confidence. He tries his best to run the school even though he does not really know how to do it. He holds very long meetings and assemblies that are often filled with irrelevant and/or ridiculous anecdotes or performances. Iqbal tries his hardest to avoid losing his job by placing the blame for his shortcomings on someone else.

The staff resents Iqbal for his incompetence and greed, except for his Deputy, Mr. Bibby.

Roger Bibby

Mr. Bibby is the Deputy Head of Bromwell High and the Geography teacher. He is extremely articulate, knowledgeable and has a very professional bearing. However, he is very stern and insensitive, and sometimes evil just for the sake of being evil. He is extremely manipulative, and therefore able to commit unethical acts with the consent of the Headmaster.

Mr. Bibby, like the Headmaster, is insatiably greedy and tries to make money through unethical practices. However, unlike the Headmaster, he is far more calculated when he implements his plans.

Martin Jackson

Mr. Jackson is the Maths teacher. He hates children, his job and himself. When he teaches, he does not discipline his students when they act contemptuously. He is also extremely neurotic, and panics at the thought of anything going wrong for him. He does not have a proper teaching qualification; he only has a certificate in plumbing technology. He often cheats on his wife, Carol Jackson, although he claims that ?using a prostitute is not cheating.?

Carol Jackson

Martin?s wife and English teacher at Bromwell high. She is discontent with the lack of intimacy and romance in her marriage, and, probably as a result of that, competes with Melanie Dickson for the affection of handsome men.

Melanie Dickson

An Australian expatriate who now resides in South London, she teaches all the subjects that nobody else wants to, and does so very poorly. She often does not care about the subjects she teaches. She often competes with Carol Jackson for the affections of handsome men, mainly because she has an insatiable libido. Iqbal referred to her as ?the slutty one? as she is by far the sexiest.

Mr. Phillips

He is Bromwell High?s Physical Education teacher. He is often unaware of his surroundings or current situation, and is therefore utterly ineffective as a teacher. Iqbal referred to him as ?the stupid one?.

Gavin Beale

He is the Religious Education teacher at Bromwell High. He acts casually in an effort to connect with his pupils, but this is a thinly veiled attempt to convert his students to Christianity.
