From its earliest days, its prosperity has been linked to that of the Port of Bristol, the commercial port which originated in the city centre, but which has now migrated to the Bristol Channel coast. Bristol extends to this coast and includes Avonmouth, where much of the current port is located. Notable areas in and surrounding the city include Clifton, Filton and Patchway. (These last two areas are outside the present city boundary, in South Gloucestershire.) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
