Bring Me to Life

"Bring Me to Life" is a single by Evanescence featuring Paul McCoy from the American rock band 12 Stones. It was the first single for Evanescence's very successful Fallen. In 2003, the song was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Daredevil, and it reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. The song's sound—most notably the male backup vocals—mixed with its popularity is what has spawned a large amount of inaccurate comparisons to Linkin Park.

True to Evanescence's style, the meaning of the song is hidden beneath lyrics that are at times cryptic. "Bring Me to Life", was inspired when Amy Lee met a friend of a friend. A total stranger who did not know her, somehow could see inside her and when he spoke, his words, "woke her up inside". This encounter with a true "Word of Knowledge" inspired the hit that would launch her career.

Two demos for this song were made, both of which can only be downloaded online. They're under the titles "Bring Me to Life V.1" (3:57) and "Bring Me to Life V.2" (4:06). V.1 is sometimes referred to as "Wake Me Up Inside". Both lack the male backup vocals of the final version because Wind-Up Records forced the band to insert them in order to put the song on the Daredevil soundtrack. V.2 also includes a guitar solo and less pop-oriented guitar riffs.
