Brian Downing
Brian Jay Downing (b. October 9, 1950 in Los Angeles, California) is a former professional baseball player who had a 20-year MLB career. During the early part of his career with the Chicago White Sox (1973-1977), the slugger spent most of his time as a catcher. However, he began being used mostly as an outfielder after moving to the California Angels (1978-1990). Downing, who played his final two seasons with the Texas Rangers, also spent a good amount of time, especially later in his career, as a designated hitter. He remained a productive hitter until retiring at age 41.
