Brearley School
Brearley School is an all-girls private school, founded in 1884 by Samuel Brearley. It has moved twice during its history and is currently located in a 12-story building on East 83rd street, Manhattan, New York City, overlooking the East River.
Academics
Academically, Brearley has a reputation as being one of the most challenging schools in the city. The curriculum is based on the study of the liberal arts, and is designed to give students a solid background in all disciplines. The English and History departments are particularly strong, and focus on the development of writing skills (in Middle School) and analysis (in Upper School). All students are required to study at least one language, and most take two. Languages currently taught are Spanish, French, Latin, and Mandarin Chinese.
