After The Rookie Lot had split, Jesse and Brian started playing and writing together again while Garrett joined soon after. Then a young Vinnie Accardi joined, completing the band's current line-up. After recording, producing and releasing their first four-track demo, the band began rigorously touring around Long Island scene. Soon enough the band found themselves playing with bands such as Midtown, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, and Glassjaw. Brand New have since done a short stint on the Warped Tour in 2003, and have previously toured with Dashboard Confessional, Incubus and Finch. They also toured with blink-182, supporting them on one of their tours of Australia in 2004.

Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades, the first single from Deja Entendu, is a shortened version of the palpal term Sic transit gloria mundi, and is quite possibly derived from the quote in the film Rushmore. The title of that album is French for "heard before", a comment on how the band believes that modern music sounds the same.
