Boris Sidis was a Russian{{fn|1}}-born American psychologist and psychiatrist influential in the early 20th century, known for pioneering work in the scientfic study of psychopathology (founding New York State Psychopathic Institute and the Journal of Abnormal Psychology), hypnoid states, and group psychology. In addition, he was a major practioner of a particularly American version of the "rest cure," using a large compound in New Hampshire. He became notorious for publically conducting a social experiement to create a genuis using his son, William James Sidis, and with his fulminations against mainstream psychology and Sigmund Freud. Boris Sidis died ostricized by the very community he helped to create, with his genius son living out an eccentric life in obscurity, and, possibly, insanity.
