Bonanno crime family
The Bonanno family is one of "Five Families" said to be in control of organized crime (Mafia activities) in New York City. It is named for its founder Joseph Bonanno.
Phillip Rastelli: 1979-1985
After the death of Galante, Phillip Rastelli took over as leader expanding the family operations to include front businesses from restaurants to espresso cafes and increased narcotics through the "Pizza Connection". The family was later infiltrated by undercover FBI agent Joseph D. Pistone (as Donnie Brasco) in the late 1970s, and over 120 members were arrested and convicted, nearly destroying the family. In 1985 Rastelli appeared to be losing control of the family as large group continued becoming much more heavily involved in narcotics in the midst of federal indictments later being convicted under the RICO Act in 1986.
