Something that is "bogus" is something that is useless, bad or fake.

The word bogus was first recorded in usage in the 1820s, referring to a machine for producing counterfeit money; its modern usage seem to have developed from there.

In hacker jargon, "bogus" has various usages with meanings such as "wrong", "nonfunctional", or "nonsensical", and has spawned related words such as "bogosity".
