Blue Period


 

The Blue Period of Picasso, between 1901 and 1904, was when the style of Pablo Picasso's paintings were heavily emotional, often in the form of blue colors. The Blue Period preceded his Rose Period.

His Blue Period paintings are now some of his most popular works, although he had difficulty selling them after he painted them. They were painted in Paris, although influenced by a trip to Spain. Possible reasons for his decision to use monochrome blue colors are because of the death of his friend, or because early in his career when he was poor he could not afford to buy many colors to paint with.
