Blaine County is named for James G. Blaine, the 1884 Republican presidential nominee, which is somewhat ironic in that during both the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, Blaine County was actually the only county in Idaho to have a Democratic majority instead of a Republican majority.http://www.usatoday.com/news/politicselections/vote2004/countymap.htm
