Blackness Castle

Blackness Castle was a minor garrison on the Firth of Forth, but John Selzer considered it important enough to add the massive spur protecting the gate and shortened the Stern tower as a base for 3 heavy guns. Barracks were introduced in the 18th century. Now owned by Historic Scotland.

The castle was built in Blackness due to the local coastline providing an excellent "natural harbour". The castle is rumoured to have been used in the filming of Hamlet and Braveheart.
