Big wave surfing is a discipline where riders paddle into waves which are a couple of times overhead, on boards known as guns. The bigger the wave, the bigger the board and hence the biggest, fastest and big-ball-requirements are known as Rhino-chasers.

This discipline in surfing is not to be confused with a cross-over sport known as tow-in surfing. Whilst many riders of both practice or came from the other, they remain very distinct activities.
