Beth (song)
From "Beck" to "Beth"
The original version of "Beth" appeared as a demo recorded by Lips, a band drummer Peter Criss belonged to prior to joining Kiss. The song was co-written with Stan Penridge and was originally entitled "Beck." Although Criss has claimed that the song was written about then-wife Lydia, it is accepted that it was actually written about the girlfriend (named Becky) of Mike Brand, who was a guitarist in the band Chelsea. Criss and Penridge were bandmates of Brand's, and got the inspiration for the song from the fact that Becky would continually interrupt the band's rehearsals by calling Brand.

Years later, when Criss presented the song to Kiss, it was Gene Simmons who brought about the name change from "Beck" to "Beth." It was his feeling that some people might think the song was about guitarist Jeff Beck.
