Berlin Film Festival
The Berlin International Film Festival, also called the "Berlinale", is one of the most important film festivals in Europe and the World. It is held annually in February (in 2005 from February 10 until February 20) and started in 1951 after an initiative of the United States, who occupied part of the city after World War II. The jury always placed special emphasis on representing films from all over the World, from the former Eastern Bloc Countries as well as from Western countries. The awards are called the Golden and Silver Bears (the Bear is the symbol of Berlin).
