Many students at Yale consider it to be the best undergraduate college, because of its beauty and it central location. It is also the only college which is split into two parts, the North Court, on one side of the Cross Campus, and the South Court, on the other. It stands steps away from the Beinecke Library, the Commons, and the Old Campus.

Annual traditions include the snowball fight, which pits North Court against South Court, and the Bishop's Bash, which was founded in the spring of 2002 by two seniors, under the guidance of the Master's Office. Its unofficial rivals are Trumbull and Calhoun Colleges.

Berkeley also has the best dining hall at Yale, and, according to the Wall Street Journal, the best dining hall in the country, which is the current testing ground for an experimental organic food and sustainable produce dining plan. While students in all residential colleges may eat in their own colleges and most others, students from others may not eat at Berkeley College without a host from the college.

One of the most beautiful locations in the college is the "Swiss Room" in the dining hall, decorated with stained glass by G. Owen Bonawit.
