Swap one cozy home for another - after 2/2009 (Berkeley)
We are a middle-aged couple who have to swap a modest (1 bdrm) vintage home in Berkeley, California 20 minutes across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco. We are in a working class neighborhood that personifies classic Berkeley diversity, and offers everything from Southern bbq to vintage clothing to car repair to Halal groceries. We've got students, seniors, families and singles on just our block. There is lots of public transportation, and nearby are scenic open spaces for walking or biking, a marina, protected coastal areas for bird-watching, lots of cultural and retail opportunities. Our home is comfortable, with lots of artsy and vintage decor; central heat; high speed internet; gas fireplace; front and back gardens. It's great for a couple who enjoy a unique and mellow environment and don't need a dishwasher or HBO to be happy. We also have 2 cats and a big, sweet dog. Caring for them (they are healthy and have no special needs) is easy but the dog has to go for long walks or swimming for her to be happy - so this will only work for you if you enjoy the outdoors and you truly love the companionship of a dog who will want your affection. We will of course reciprocate by caring for your dog, plants, iguanas, chia pet collection or whatever. We love it here. But we really need a vacation. We want to visit some place that is rich in culture, scenery and is warm. Mexico or south would be nice. Where do you live? We'd like to hear from you.
