Berengar


 
 

Berengar was the name of two related rulers of northern Italy in the 10th century.

  • Berengar of Friuli was King of Italy from 888 (though there were rival claimaints) until his death in 924. He was crowned emperor by the Pope in 915.
  • Berengar of Ivrea, sometimes called Berengar II of Italy, was King of Italy from 950 to 961. He was the son of Berengar of Friuli's daughter Gisela.

    • The name was shared by 11th century theologian Berengar of Tours.
