Berdiansk (, Berdians?k; , Berdyansk) is a port city in southeastern Ukraine within the Zaporizhia Oblast (province). It sits on the northern coast of the Sea of Azov and it is also a health resort with mud-baths and climatic treatments..

The city was founded in 1827 under the name Kutur-Ogly which in 1830 was changed to Novo-Nogaisk (see Nogai ).

Its present name was given to the city in 1842.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Between 1939 and 1958 it was known as Osipenko, the name now used by the nearby town Osypenko.

Its main cultural and educational institutions are the Museums of Arts, Natural Sciences, the Pedagogical Institute, and the Medical School.

The Museum of City History is to be opened in September 2005.

As of 1996, the city had a population of 135,000 people. The 2001 census count was 125,000.
