Benzin

Benzin (German for petrol or gasoline) is a song by the German industrial band Rammstein. It was the first song to be introduced from their upcoming album, Rosenrot. Rammstein first played Benzin live at Berlin's Wuhlheide Park in June 2005.

Concert goers have stated that the song was on the same hard level with "Amerika". During the live performance, theatrical flames shot twenty meters into the air.

Speaking recently in an interview with Kerrang! magazine Oliver Riedel explained "We have so much fire in our shows that we wondered if we could have some lyrics about petrol, because it's been responsible for our success outside of Germany. It's basically our ode to pyromania." The song can also be seen as somewhat political (Ich brauche Geld f?r Gasolin1/I need money for gasoline). That line could be viewed as a reference to the high gas prices being experienced in the United States and UK.

1 Gasoline is not actually a German word, rather it is an English word made German. There was, however, a German chain of gas stations called "Gasolin".
