Ben Stein


 

Benjamin Jeremy Stein (born November 25, 1944, in Washington, D.C.) is a fervently conservative (with strong libertarian economic impulses) pro-life former White House speechwriter (for the late Republican President Richard Nixon); he is/was also an attorney, (former) game show host, actor, commercial personality, screenwriter, law professor, economist, author, and columnist. He is the son of noted economist and writer Herbert Stein, and his wife, Mildred. Ben Stein has a sister, Rachel, a writer.

Personal background

His early years were spent growing up in a heavily Jewish and Democratic neighborhood in Silver Spring, Maryland. Stein graduated from Montgomery Blair High School, where some of his classmates included journalist Carl Bernstein and actors Goldie Hawn and Sylvester Stallone. He went on to attend Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in economics. He graduated with honors in 1966, and then enrolled in Yale University Law School, graduating as the class valedictorian in 1970.

Stein is married to entertainment lawyer Alexandra Denman, whom he divorced and later remarried. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0825401/bio. Stein currently resides with Denman and their son in Beverly Hills, California. He was previously a San Fernando Valley resident of Los Angeles, California. He lives part time in Malibu, California in a house with a Pacific Ocean view while teaching at Pepperdine University.
