Beaufort, North Carolina
Beaufort (pronounced "BO-furt") is a town located in Carteret County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,771. It is the county seat of Carteret County{{GR|6}}. It is sometimes confused with a city of the same name in South Carolina; the two are distinguished by different pronunciations.

The movie A Walk to Remember takes place in this town.

In 1996, the town became famous when it was reported that the famed pirate, Blackbeard's, old ship was found. The ship had been destroyed in Blackbeard's final battle. The discovery has made Beaufort a fairly large tourist attraction for Carteret County.
