Born in New York City and raised in San Francisco, California, her most enduring role is that of the voice of "Betty Rubble", the rather sexy next-door neighbor of "Fred and Wilma Flintstone" in The Flintstones, an animated cartoon series loosely based on The Honeymooners, for whom she provided a voice from 1960 to 1964. She had earlier provided many female voices in Warner Bros. animated shorts. A recurring role as "Cousin Pearl" in the CBS sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies led to her being cast as as "Kate Bradley", proprietor of the Shady Rest Hotel in Petticoat Junction, in which she starred until her death.
