Baylor University
Baylor University is an independent coeducational Baptist institution of higher learning located in Waco, Texas. It is the largest Baptist university in the world and oldest university chartered by the Republic of Texas (1845).
Academics
The university is known for its law school, school of music http://www.christmasatbaylor.com/, museum studies program, the Hankamer School of Business, and the George W. Truett Theological Seminary. Baylor also houses, in its Armstrong Browning Library, one of the world's largest and finest collections of items and manuscripts related to the Victorian poets, Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Baylor is the largest Baptist university in the world, although in 1991, amidst concerns of a potential fundamentalist take-over, the university changed the terms of its charter (by permission of the Texas legislature) in order to establish a governance less directly dependent upon the Baptist General Convention of Texas, whilst retaining links with the convention. (In the event, the BGCT was never taken over by the fundamentalists.)
