Basin Street

Basin Street New Orleans, Louisiana runs along Rampart Street between the northwest boundry of the French Quarter and the southeast edge of Saint Louis Cemetery. Basin Street was immortalized in the Basin Street Blues composed by Spencer Williams in 1926 and recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1929. Prior to World War I, elegant mansions along Basin Street served as high-end brothels in Storyville. After Storyville's closure, Basin Street was temporarily renamed North Saratoga. Today, Basin Street becomes Elks Pl. west of Canal Street and is Orleans Ave east of St. Louis St..
