Barry Jarman
Barrington Noel Jarman (born February 17 1936 in Hindmarsh, Adelaide, South Australia) is a former Australian Test cricketer and International Cricket Council (ICC) Match Referee.

Jarman was a talented wicketkeeper and useful middle-order batsman who made his first-class debut for his native South Australia in 1955 as a nineteen year old.

He was selected in the Australian team touring South Africa two seasons later but lost out on the wicketkeeping role in the team to Wally Grout, who was the mainstay for a number of years after.

Jarman did make his Australian Test debut in December 1959 on the tour of India. In a ten-year Test career he went on to play nineteen Tests for Australia, taking fifty catches and four stumpings in this time.

Throughout his career Jarman was a mainstay in the South Australian team and by the time of his playing retirement in 1969, he had taken 560 first-class dismissals (431 catches and 129 stumpings) in 191 games, an outstanding record only bettered at the time by Grout and former Test wicketkeeper Bert Oldfield.

He captained Australia in one Test match, against England at Headingley in 1968, as a replacement for the injured Bill Lawry. The match was drawn.

Later in life Jarman was appointed as one of the first ICC Match Referees - a role which saw him oversee players and officials during international games - and during a prominent six-year career (between 1995 and 2001) was involved in 53 international matches.

An avid horse racing fan, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in 1997 "for service to sport as a cricket player, coach and international cricket referee, and to horseracing in South Australia".
