~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ She has a very long history in film and television, but is probably best known for her roles as Hal Linden's character's wife on Barney Miller, and on Suddenly Susan, in which she played Susan (Brooke Shields)'s grandmother. Most recently, she had a recurring role in the series Dead Like Me. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ She is the author of two critically acclaimed novels for young adults: Lone Star (1989) and Adam Zigzag (1995). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ She survived a battle with rectal cancer and was fitted with a colostomy bag. She is married and the mother of 2 children. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
