Baragon had the ability to burrow underground extremely well, and could fire some type of heat ray from his mouth. After devouring numerous people and livestock, Baragon eventually clashed with the Frankenstein monster, but lost the battle when the human-like creature broke Baragon's neck.

A few years later, Baragon made a cameo in Destroy All Monsters (1968). Though he was mentioned several times throughout the film (he was the kaiju blamed for the attack on Paris), he wasn't fully seen until the very end of the film, showing him as another one of the monsters living on Monsterland.

Thirty three years later, Baragon was resurrected for the (then) latest Godzilla film, ' (2001). His background was changed to be a bit more mystical in origin, as he was now one of a trio of ancient Yamato Guardians (along with Mothra and King Ghidorah). Stripped of his heat ray in this film, he still retained his burrowing ability, and was the first of the Guardians to encounter Godzilla. Though Baragon gave it his all, he was only half Godzilla's size and plainly helpless before the creature's might. Charging his atomic ray, Godzilla destroyed Baragon in a huge explosion.
