Verification Analyst (downtown / civic / van ness)

The Supplier Clearinghouse certifies and verifies women and minorities businesses for the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). We've held this contract for over 10 years and we're looking for someone to join our team. As a verification analyst, you will review cases and make recommendations to the Project Director to certify or deny the businesses that apply to our program. This is a specialized job and individuals from diverse backgrounds have been successful. Here are some key skills and or abilities: organized, adaptable, can think independently, independent but enjoys team work, write well, excellent analytical skills, excellent verbal communication skills, multi-tasker, and is willing and able to travel in the State of CA. Compensation Package: $35,000 - $40,000 salary, 12% fringe benefits package (health, dental, life insurance, disability, retirement savings, etc., EXCELLENT vacation, holiday and sick leave package: 13 vacation days, 12 sick days, 13 paid holidays! Company socials, etc. Location: We're a local San Francisco nonprofit in the Civic Center Area - about 1.5 blocks from Civic Center MUNI/BART. Map it if you'd like: Asian, Inc. 1167 Mission Street, 4th Floor SF, CA 941103 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • 35% - Analyze information contained in applications, supporting documentation, and field audit reports to determine and verify that businesses are at least 51% owned, controlled, and operated by minorities or women as established by General Order 156, and the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) guidelines. • 25% - Interview applicants, their employees, attorneys, CPAs, and contact references, and review company documentation and operations to ascertain qualification as a WMBE. Review all site-visit reports, and perform on-site field audits of selected applicants as needed Statewide. Maintain weekly status report of on-site visits pending, in progress, and reports due. • 20% - Allocate files to self prior to analysis. Prepare documents justifying WMBE certification. Ensure the case file is complete and contains all supporting documentation, checklists, and reports. Complete desk audit checklists for each assigned WMBE verification application. Enter determination status and comments into database. • 20% - Prepare detailed reports with findings and conclusions for each applicant who has been denied WMBE verification. Prepare letter of WMBE certification denial and handle subsequent correspondence. Continue to communicate with applicants as needed. Prepare necessary supporting documentation on denial cases for transmittal to the CPUC. • 5% - Perform additional projects as needed, including occasional protest reviews. Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Requirements: Education: • Bachelor of Arts or higher, preferably in business-related or other technical field OR AA Degree with at least 5 years work experience. Experience and Skills: • Prior business experience desirable • Strong project management skills • Strong analytical skills, including financial analysis • Some knowledge or ability to learn tax documents of various types, community property issues, business structure, trusts, joint ventures, and operating agreements • Familiarity with web searches • Wants to travel at least 2 days a month via car or plane. Possess a valid California Driver’s License and have access to an auto.
