~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Azetbur became a leader at a critical time in Klingon history, as her homeworld of Qo'noS had just suffered severe ecological damage due to the explosion of its moon, Praxis. She was prominent during the Khitomer Accords, leading to an unprecedented period of relative peace between the Federation and the Klingons. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Curiously, as of 2367, a law was in place prohibiting females to assume the role of Klingon Chancellor or serving on the High Council. It is possible that Azetbur fell out of favor with the Klingon High Council after the Khitomer Accords. Although the talks were successful, they did weaken the prestige of the proud Klingon race. In addition, several factions within the Empire were opposed to talks with the Federation. Although unsuccessful in sabotaging the talks, they may have exercised political clout to overthrow Azetbur in particular and to outlaw women from assuming the role of Klingon Chancellor (or serving on the High Council) in general. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
