Awake

Being awake is a metabolic state which is marked by catabolic processes and which is characterized by consciousness, the opposite of sleep, an anabolic process. Communication, ambulation, and ingestion are conducted while awake.

Animals can run, walk and eat while awake; humans can also talk, listen, write, read, and productively think and work in the awake state.
