In French, the song is known as "Les feuilles mortes"; the latter from its French author, Jacques Prévert (the composer being Joseph Kosma). The French poem set to music was introduced by Yves Montand in 1946 for the film "Les Portes de la Nuit". Johnny Mercer wrote English lyrics in 1949, which have been very popular, and changed the name from "Les Feuilles Mortes" to "Autumn Leaves"; however, one of the most popular recordings of the song is an instrumental by Roger Williams.
