Austria legislative election, 1971
The elections to the Austrian National Council of 1971, held only one year after the 1970 elections, were the first after a reform of election law that increased the number of seats in parliament from 165 to 183. Bruno Kreisky, leader of the SPÖ had already led a minority cabinet since 1970, which had been tolerated by the FPÖ. The electoral reform, which was favorable to small parties, was one of the concessions he had to make.
