Aurelian Walls

The Aurelian Walls where built between 270 and 273, by Roman Emperor Aurelian to defend the city of Rome, capital of the Roman Empire by barbarian attacks. At the time, the city had been grown well beyond the old Servian Wall, built during the republican period, protected by several centuries of expansion of Rome; but the new menace, represented by the barbarian tribes flooding through the German frontier, could not be stopped by the Roman Empire, then in a heavy crisis.
