Aunt Bee was the aunt of Sheriff Andy Taylor in the small town of Mayberry, North Carolina. She served as housekeeper to the widowed Taylor and his young son, Opie. She was an excellent cook, and often prepared meals for the inmates in Taylor's tiny jail as well, and served as a surrogate mother/grandmother figure to Opie. After the Taylors left Mayberry and the program was transformed into Mayberry R.F.D., she continued to fill largely the same role for the new character Sam Jones and his son (but as he was not sheriff, she was no longer usually involved in preparing meals for the jail inmates).
