Auckland Grammar School
Auckland Grammar School (fully, The Auckland College and Grammar School; commonly AGS), is a state school in Auckland, New Zealand, colloquially known as "Grammar" to Aucklanders. It is a mixed day and boarding school for boys aged 13 (Year 9 or Form III) to 18 (Year 13 or Form VII). The 2004 roll was 2490 http://www.tki.org.nz/e/schools/display_school_info.php?school_id=54, making it one of the largest schools in New Zealand.
History
The school was created by the Auckland Grammar School Appropriation Act 1868, but is predated by the school's charter given by Governor Sir George Grey's Deed of Endowment in 1850.

Auckland Grammar School is generally accepted to be one of the more prestigious state schools in New Zealand, and indeed the South Pacific, where the School has a famous reputation. Along with Nelson College, and Wellington College, the school is one of the oldest schools in New Zealand.
