~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Auchinleck (sometimes pronounced Affleck) is a town with a population of ca. 3,900 situated 8km south-east of Mauchline, and a few km north-west of Cumnock in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Near the city is Auchinleck House, sometime home of the lawyer, diarist and biographer James Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ It is derived from Achadh nan Leac, Scottish Gaelic for "Field of the Slab/tombstone" ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
