Asylum Records
Asylum Records was started in 1971 by David Geffen. The label was acquired by Warner Communications and merged with Elektra Records in 1972 to become Elektra/Asylum Records, while Geffen remained in charge. In 1975 David Geffen resigned as director to go into the movie business.

In 1989, Elekta/Asylum Records was renamed Elektra Entertainment, while Asylum broke off into a subsidary label underneath. In 1992, Asylum was reformatted into a country label.

In 2005, after being dormant for several years, the Asylum name was revived. The new Asylum Records is an urban music-based label that is part of the Warner Music Group with some of its acts released in conjuction with Warner Bros. Records and others through Atlantic Records. Its artists include Hot Wright, Mike Jones, Lil Boosie, Webbie, Geto Boys, Lil Wyte, Cam'Ron, Frayser Boy and Z-Ro.
