Asella

Asellais a city in the Oromia region of Ethiopia. It is located at latitude 7° 57' north and longitude 39° 7', with an elevation of 2430 meters, and is 175 kilometers from Addis Ababa. As of 1994, it had a population of 47,391.

Asella was the captial of Arsi province until that province was abolished with the adoption of the 1994 Constitution. It retains some administrative functions as the seat of the present Arsi zone of Oromio province. Asella has been the home of many Ethiopian running athletes, including Haile GebreSelassie, Keneisa Bekele, Tirunesh Dibaba, and Derartu Tule.
